Richard Bruton T.D.
Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Dublin Bay North Richard Bruton TD is Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment. He previously served as Minister of Education and Skills from May 2016 to October 2018 and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation from 2011 – 2016.
Richard is very ambitious for what this country can achieve.
- In Jobs he launched the Action Plan for Jobs at the depth of the recession with the goal of creating 100,000 extra jobs. Twice that target was achieved by the date of 2016;
- In Education he put in place a plan to make the Irish Education and Training service the best in Europe by 2026 we have already met several key benchmarks;
- In Communications, Climate Action and Environment he has delivered the National Broadband Plan and put in place Ireland’s first Climate Action Plan which will make Ireland more sustainable, healthier and meet our commitments to future generations.
Richard worked as an economist before entering politics in the private sector and with the ERSI. He acted as Policy Director for Fine Gael and authored numerous policy papers on finance, education, employment, and the public service, including Fine Gael’s ‘Reinventing Government’ to reform politics and reinvent the public service.
He is married to Susan Meehan and they have four children. In his spare time, Richard enjoys running, swimming, cycling, cooking and music. His signature dish is Chicken Balti His favourite music is Leonard Cohen.
