Peter Burke T.D.
Before being elected to Dáil Éireann in 2016, Peter trained as a Chartered Accountant and worked in the private sector for ten years . During this time, he was elected to Westmeath County Council in 2009 and re-elected in 2014.
He was born and reared on his family farm in Mullingar and is married to Olivia Doolan. They have two young sons – Leo is 4 and Ted is almost 1.
Peter has a strong interest in finance and taxation policy and was delighted to be appointed to the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee, the Finance Committee and later the Rural and Community Development Committee.
His priorities for Longford and Westmeath include securing increased capital expenditure for job growth, for public transport and infrastructure and securing more resources for Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar. Due to his upbringing, he is acutely aware of the issues facing the farming community at present and is committed to working alongside the beef taskforce to increase the price farmers are receiving for beef. Peter recognises how vital it is that the government keeps the economy growing to ensure we can continue to build on investment into vital services for our people.
