Senator Burke’s Civil Law (Presumption of Death) Act 2019 came into effect from Friday, 1st November 2019.
This legislation is intended to help families who find themselves in a tragic situation where a loved one is missing and presumed dead.
“In such heart-breaking situations, this new law puts a framework in place to help them navigate the legal quagmire.”
This legislative reform was the culmination of five years of work by Senator Burke, who first introduced it in the Seanad in 2014.
